Intermediate team defeat Carrigaline

The Intermediate team played Carrigaline in the opening round of the Championship in Kinsale. Played in greasy conditions the opening of the game was an even affair. Clon gradually got on top as the half progressed and had a 0-05 to 0-03 approaching half time when they were awarded a penalty for a foot block. A well taken penalty from Jack Cowhig was well saved by the Carrigaline keeper but the in rushing Pa O’Sullivan was first to the rebound to bury it to the back of the net. At half time Clon led   1-05 to 0-03.

Clon kicked the first three scores of the second half to further extend their advantage to 1-08 to 0-03  and seemingly put the game to rest. However Carrigaline got a foothold in the game and following two fast points were awarded a dubious penalty. A fine save from James O’Brien ( who replaced the injured Aidan Collins at half time  ) kept Clon in control and they kicked on after this to lead 1-10 to 0-06. Carrigaline were not finished and two late goals put a gloss on the scoreboard, with the last goal being scored with the final kick.
