Seniors defeated by Muskerry and exit Championship

The Senior football team took on Muskerry on Saturday evening last in Newcestown. Clon played against the breeze in the opening half. The opening five minutes was an even affair but then Clon left in a soft goal after a Muskerry attacker was left all on his own one on one with the keeper before burying the ball to the net. This gave Muskerry an early boost and they kicked on from this to lead lead 1-06 to 0-03 approaching half time. Clon finished the opening half well and kicked the last three scores to only trail by four points at half time 1-07 to 0-06.

Clon dominated possession in the second half and had midfield dominance and won the majority of the breaks. However we were unable to turn this possession into scores and after 45 minutes Clon trailed 1-10 to 0-09. Despite their best efforts Clon were unable to get a much needed goal. Even though Clon were the better team in the second half a number of missed chances from play and frees ultimately proved very costly as Muskerry saw out the game to win 1-12 to 0-12. This was a most disappointing way to exit the championship at an early stage for the second consecutive year.
