Junior A Hurlers defeat Ballinascarthy and regain the Flyer Nyhan

The Junior A Hurlers took on Ballinascarthy in an eagerly awaited West Cork Hurling final . A huge crowd packed the banks of Timoleague as the local rivals locked horns.

Ballinascarthy got off to the quickest start as they scored a well worked goal to lead by 1-02 to 0-02 after the opening five minutes. From there until half time Clon dominated the game and played almost flawless hurling. A great pass from Sean McEvoy to Thomas Clancy got a goal back for Clon almost immediately. This was then followed by a flurry of scores and Clon cranked up the pressure on an over worked Bal defence. Another well taken Clon goal from Sean McEvoy put Clon into a commanding half time lead of 2-13 to 1-05 at half time.

The half time break seemed to halt Clon’s momentum as Bal took the pitch in determined fashion. They were now aided by the breeze and they scored the first five points of the second half and had narrowd the gap to just two pucks of the ball 2-18 to 1-15 entering the final 10 minutes. Clon were lucky to escpape thanks to a fine double save from Mark White and Pa O’Sullivan. From there Clon saw the game out with two of the best points of the game from Thomas Clancy and David Lowney.

Afterwards vice-captain Denis Murphy was presented with the Flyer Nyhan from Carbery Board Vice-Chairman Tommy Lyons in front of a large band of supporters. Thomas Clancy was awarded the “Man of the Match ” award from O’Neill Bros Sports Clonakilty
