U21 A Hurlers reach West Cork Final
The U21 A Hurlers played Ahan Gaels in the West Cork semi-final in Ahiohill. Clon lost the toss and were forced to play against a gale force wind in the opening period.
Clon found a lively Ahan attack tough to manage and found themselves 1-05 to 0-01 down after the opening quarter. Things did not improve much for the rest of the 1st half as Ahan were able to use the wind to their advantage to build up a commanding and deserved lead 1-09 to 0-04 at half time.
Clon need a quick start to the second period to get back in the game but were unable to use the strong wind to their advantage with numerous wides not helping the cause. Clon still trailed 1-10 to 0-07 entering the final quarter. A well taken goal from substitute Eoin O’Neill probved to be the catalyst as Clon kicked on from there. Suddenly the wides disappeared and scores came from all angles. A second Clon goal from David Lowney put Clon in front and they ended up running out convincing winners 2-15 to 1-10. An excellent final quarter was needed for victory and the players responded. Clon now adavance to play Kilmeen in the final with a date to be confirmed.
