U21A Football team defeated in county semi-final

The U21A Football side took on a much fancied Cill Na Martra side in the semi-final of the County U21 A Football Championship in Kilmichael.

Clon got off to an ideal start and after an impressive start led by three point to nil after the opening five minutes. After that Cill Na Martra took over and aided by a penalty opened up a 2-04 to 0-03 advantage in the space of 10 minutes. The Clon full back line was under sustained pressure as the lively Cill Na Martra forwards looked very dangerous. Clon were undaunted and responded in excellent fashion with a well taken Eoin Deasy goal part of a 1-04 unanswered scoring burst for Clon which narrowed the advantage to two points approaching half time. However disaster struck on the stroke of half time as Cill Na Martra got in for their third goal thank partly to a very harsh free awarded by the referee in the build up to lead 3-06 to 1-07 at the short whistle.

Clon got the opening score of the opening half through Ross Mannix but Cill Na Martra responded with the next three scores to extend their lead. The next fifteen minutes were low scoring which left Cill Na Martra six points ahead entering the final ten minutes and seemingly well on course for a comfortable victory. Clon finished the game in excellent fashion and completely dominated the closing stages helped by a couple of long range Mark White scores. They narrowed the deficit entering the closing minutes but were unable to get the deserved equalizing score. Final score : Clonakilty 1-16 Cill Na Martra 3-11

It was probably the best performance put on by the Clon side this year. They were very unlucky not to get at least a leveling score. A number of vital decisions went against them during the game which led to crucial Cill Na Martra scores. Ultimately the concession of three first half goals proved the difference and Cill Na Martra had the games outstanding player in Dan Dinneen. They now advance to the county final
