Senior Football team defeated in Kelleher Shield Final

The Senior Football team took on Ballincollig in the final of the Rochestown Town Park sponsored Kelleher Shield final in Ovens. Despite an excellent win over Carbery Rangers the previous week them still entered the game as heavy underdogs against Ballincollig.

Clon were by far the better team in the opening half with a combination of tight defending, great teamwork and a sharp forward unit giving them a deserved half time advantage 1-06 to 0-04. Ballincollig roared into the game in the second half as their physical presence told and reduced the deficit. Clon responded and still held a three point lead entering the final 10 minutes. Ballincollig responded again and a number of points leveled the game. Only for an excellent point blank save from Mark White Ballincollig would have won in normal time.

Clon were out on their feet in extra time and struggled to get into the game. Another excellent goal line clearance from Tiarnan O’Connell kept Clon in the game but they were unable to get the match winning goal they needed.

Final score Ballincollig 0-14 Clonakilty 1-09
