U21A Hurlers edge past Ibane Gaels

The U21A Hurling team took on Ibane Gaels in the West Cork Quarter Final on Saturday 26th August in Ballinascarthy. The game was slow to get going but after the opening ten minutes Clon gradually began to get on top and led by 0-05 to 0-02. From there until the half time whistle Clon remained in command to lead 0-11 to 0-06.

A goal by Ross Mannix immediately after half time seemed to put Clon on the road to victory and they retained the advantage and led 1-13 to 0-09 entering the final quarter. However Ibane Gaels responded with two goals to narrow the defecit. Two Clon scores then extended their advantage back to a goal as the game entered injury time. Ibane Gaels were not finished and replied with their third goal to tie the game. In the last play of the game Clon were awarded a free which was converted by David Lowney to win the game by the narrowest of margins. Clon played very good and fast hurling at times but the concession of three goal kept Ibane Gaels in the game. Clon now advance to play Ahane Gaels in the West Cork Semi Final with a date to be confirmed.
