The competitive 2020 season started with a bang with high tempo match between two evenly-matched teams that have met on many occasions in the past. The fixture proved to be a high quality, hard fought match where both teams were impressive. Both defences played well and scores were difficult to find. Fine scores from play by Illan Smith and Emmet Nolan in the first half contributed to a 2-point lead for Clonakilty.
Clonakilty were on-top for much of the first half but came under significant pressure culminating in a 2nd-half goal for Valleys which tied the match. Introduction of the injured Jack Byerley was a turning point as he contributed 4 points over a 20 minute interval including a difficult winning free close to the end. Stand-out performances from Illan Smith, Emmet Nolan, Jack Byerley and James Costello proved a little too much for the ever-competitive Valley Rovers side.
