This fixture proved to be very entertaining as two evenly-matched teams competed to the very end when 2 goals close to the end of play secured a victory for Sam Maguires. Clonakilty dominated the first 20 minutes with super defensive play led by Michael Francis Collins produced ample supply for Christos Delis, Fionn Gilmore and James Maguire to score from. The game evolved into a very competitive match with both sides scoring well taken points. Clonakilty led 1-05 to 0-04 at half time and looked to push on in the second half. Despite excellent play from subs Calum McLellan and Eoin Minihan the gap between the teams tightened. Clonakilty had numerous chances to pull away to no avail. As if often the case in underage hurling, a final flurry of scores from the Dohenys secured a narrow win. The game was played with good sportsmanship, exemplified by encouraging words from the Sam Maguires coaching staff immediately after the game.
Stand-out moments included midfield runs from Fionn Gimore and James McGuire, brilliant passing from Christos Delis and brave defending from Lennart Lindenfeld and Finn O’Mahony.
